Abstract

The metabolic syndrome is a set of metabolic
abnormalities that is currently one of the main
public health problems in Mexico. The objective of
this research was to analyze the eating habits that
are related to metabolic alterations in patients with
metabolic syndrome aged 18 to 30 years of the
Faculty of Chemical-Biological Sciences. A cross-

sectional-observational study was carried out in
UAGro students, determining parameters such as
weight, height, waist circumference, hip and blood
pressure. For the analysis of the diet, a 24-hour
recall was carried out. Biochemical analyzes were
performed. Finding that of the 147 students 98
(67%) were women and 49 (33%) men. Abnormal
concentrations of high and low-density cholesterol,
triglycerides, as well as abnormalities in blood
pressure and abdominal obesity were observed.
Patients with MS do not have an adequate diet,
being mainly smokers, drinkers and with a diet high
in carbohydrates, lipids and reduced in protein,
which conditions the development of metabolic
syndrome.
