Productive performance of goats supplemented with different levels of tannins in cascalote fruit (Caesalpinia coriaria (Jacq.) Willd).

The effect of the inclusion of the cascalote fruit
(Caesalpinia coriaria (Jacq.) Willd) as a source of
tannins in the goat diet on the productive behavior
was evaluated. Twenty Nubia / Criollo male goats
with an initial weight of 20.0 ± 3.0 kg (n = 5 per
treatment) were assigned to the following treatments
under a completely randomized design: T0 (base
diet) without tannins, T1 (base diet + 1.5% tannins
in cascalote fruit), T2 (base diet with 3% tannins)
and T3 (base diet with 4.5% tannins). There were no
significant differences (p> 0.05) for daily weight
gain, feed conversion and ruminal pH, other than
dry matter intake, showed higher values (p <0.05) in
the control diet (T0) with 1.10 kg, followed by goats
of treatments T1, T2 and T3 with 1.07, 1.08 and
0.99 kg, respectively. In conclusion, the increase in
the level of condensed tannins in the diet of goats
affected the consumption of dry matter without
affecting the daily weight gain nor the feed
conversion
