Determinación de la actividad antimicrobiana y antioxidante de extractos de Cercocarpus macrophylla
Keywords:
Antioxidant activity, Antimicrobial activity, Cercocarpus macrophyllaAbstract
Cercocarpus macrophylla is a plant of traditional
Mexican medicine from the Sierra de Guerrero that is
used to treat different types of diseases, such as skin
infections, gastrointestinal and kidney conditions.
This study is the first report on the antioxidant and
antimicrobial capacity of extracts of: C. macrophylla.
The antioxidant activity was evaluated by means of
the DPPH assay. The EtOAc fraction of C.
macrophylla was the sample that presented the
highest antioxidant activity (DPPH IC50 of 75.2 j.tg /
mL).
Regarding antimicrobial activity, the
dichloromethane fraction was more effective with
gram positive bacteria (50 ± 3.0 mg mL-1) that with
gram negative ones (150 ± 20 mg mL-1), the study
indicated that fungi were less susceptible than
bacteria (> 400 mg mL-1). The results showed that C.
macrophylla extracts showed potential as
antioxidants and antimicrobials in vitro.
