Abstract

The objective of the document is to highlight the
importance of tourism in the Mexican economy,
especially the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area dedicated to the
attention of the traveler. At first, a brief historical
review was made on the evolution that led to this place
being determined as a recreation and recreation area for
visitors, later, after the use of two variables, such as
resident and non-resident tourists, indicates how
economic cycles both nationally and globally have an
impact on the influx of visitors. In addition, an indicator
was generated that relates the number of resident and
non-resident tourists to the number of inhabitants in the
municipality that houses this tourist area; These
elements are useful for the use of the Life Cycle Theory
of a Tourist Area (CVAT) by Richard Butler, in order
to recognize the phase or stage in which IxtapaZihuatanejo is, either: exploration,
involvement, development, consolidation,
stagnation, and the final two alternatives;
rejuvenation or decline
