The design, simulation, manufacturing and initial
characterization of a photothermal-photovoltaic solar
hybrid solar distillator, pyramid type, is presented.
The pyramid-type solar distiller has shown
satisfactory results, in terms of production and
efficiency (Nayi & Modi, 2018). The prototype
presented in this work consists of a stainless steel
base 50 cm x 50 cm and 2 cm high. With these
dimensions, the capacity of the tray is five liters. The
base of the tray is surrounded by 15 cm of
polyurethane that works as a thermal insulator, this
reduces the losses of heat absorbed by the base. A 3
mm thick glass cover in pyramidal shape serves as a
means to achieve condensation of water vapor. Water
is conducted through polyvinyl chloride, PVC
pipelines. To improve condensation, a forced
convection system is implemented, for this two direct
current fans of 3 W of electrical power were installed.
The average air speed is 3.4 m·s-1
, which corresponds
to a convective coefficient of 25.49 W·m-2
·K-1
(Engineering Toolbox, 2003). A solar module of 10
W of power is used to supply electric power to the
fans. Through
